"Idol's" David Hernandez Wants to Be "Rent" Boy

TMZ has learned that "AI" wannabeen David Hernandez has come to the Big Apple to audition for the cast of Broadway's "Rent." Hey -- beats strippin' for a livin'!

We caught up with Hernandez on his way into town, and when we pressed him about his tryout, all he would say was that he was auditioning for a show called "Lease." ("Lease" ... "Rent" ... Is he really making a "Team America: World Police" ref? You decide.)

Arizona Dave also seemed a little bewildered by the big city, prodding random strangers for help finding a car and asking a Hasidic Jew whether he was a "Pilgrim."

We contacted "Rent" for comment, but we haven't heard back yet. The Broadway production ends its 12-year run on June 1.

16. He has moved to NY and is trying to find a job! TMZ is this so interesting to you because most of the people you cover don't have clue what "finding a job" means?

21. Oy, he doesn't know Brooklyn. We've got plenty of "Pilgrims" there, whole neighborhoods even.

22. Uh..I don't give a crap about this dude but as PHX native, just as David, I must say that we are not a bunch of dumb hicks bewildered by the big city as was the implication in the above post. We are smart hicks from a place with very few jewish people. Although we do get a lot of all types of people in the winter.

24. RENT is closing on Broadway on June 1... so there's no way he could get on the NY stage in time. But they'd probably welcome him in the touring cast.

29. Sweetie, congratulations for auditioning. I do hope you make it. And for my own lovely fantasy I hope audition for the part of Angel Dumott Schunard. But I do have to say, you would make a much better Mimi Marquez then previous "Idol" Tamyra Gray.

Keep going strong,
Lisa

30. This guy made a living doing nude pole dances and nude lap dances on the laps of men who were no telling how old as he smiled and lied to them for the money he got. And, more than likely as with most of that "vocation," it is highly likely that other "services" were available after hours for other "fees." By profession he was a pretender, a liar. Tha man is wandering around now still in his "fifteen minutes of fame" and still believing that in spite of his past he will find fame. Reality is that he will always be the gay, male, nude pole dancer who did not receive enough votes to stay on American Idol. Nothing will ever change that. That "career choice" will affect every career option he ever has for the rest of his life ... fair or unfair. He is living in a huge world of arrogance as he ignores the fate of nearly every single contestant on that show, including some of the winners. One has to wonder, but not too much, about how he is "financing" trips to pursue further employment. But then .... we know how he has learned to make money.
