"Idol" or Drowning Daughter? Mom Chose "Idol"

Sirius BrownA 25-year-old mother of five accidentally left two of her young children in the bathtub last week in Indianapolis, leaving one to nearly drown -- because she was too busy watching "American Idol." Don't worry -- like Luke Menard, the kid survived.

According to a police report, Sheila Brooks placed her youngest kids (Sirius, 3, and Sereena, 1) in the tub and then went to another room to fetch some clothes. After watching "Idol" for a few minutes with two of her other children -- Daesheana, 7, and Dasianaye, 5 -- Brooks suddenly remembered about the other two kids and sent Daesheana to get them out.

The police say that when Daesheana got to the bathtub, she found Sirius submerged underwater and not moving. She called for her mom, who then performed CPR and called 911.

As of now no charges have been filed and Sirius is still in the hospital, according to WIBC radio.

91. #93...well said..... and just for the record, for all races, it's just common knowledge that you do not leave your kids unattended in or near water, to do otherwise is neglect, pure and simple. drowning happens quickly, faster than one would think. My daughter was in a pool with 3 adults and about 4 kids, i was right outside the pool, she had just showed me a "trick" and i told her how cute she was, a boy jumped in the pool right next to her, and she took a lung full of water and instantly couldn't breathe and began to sink. I was horrified, i was right there, jumped in, saved my little girl. It was traumatizing, i could have lost her and i wasn't even being careless, $%it happens, even when youre being responsible.... so we as parents need to be diligent when it comes to the lives we bring into this world and it wouldnt hurt to keep an eye out for others, too. kids are kids, no matter who's they are, what color they are....

92. Please.....can someone tell me why this woman - and I use the term loosely - still has kids? What is the criteria used to decide who is just too stupid or screwed up to raise a child? Apparently, different rules applied to Britney Spears. And those names? Are you kidding me? Doesn't that border on child abuse as well?

Are black people not being racist by not letting a white person use a word that some black persons use so freely??? Something to think about...

94. Hater--
You are right about looking after your children no matter what race you are. If you are THAT attached to American Idol then you probably should schedule the kids' bathtime AROUND the damn show. Then you don't have to miss a precious 5-10 minutes or so of it! Common sense people. If you are going to have children be responsible for them. Don't leave another minor child in charge of looking after another young child. It's NOT their responsibility to take on.
In reference to your close call, I am glad it turned out ok. My little sister almost drowned in our pool. Due to lack of adult supervision on my parent's side.

95. i have a three year old and a 5 month old,, i would never leave them alone in the bath tub to go an get anything,,, she need to be charged and if her daughter does not make it she needs to go to jail,,,,

96. Common sense? Truly there is a lack of that here. Two children almost drown due to a dumb bitch. She should have her children taken away for that reason alone. I read as many posts on any particular subject here, but some of you go on and on and on with your venting............................Stop already with these long ass posts. Stick to the friggin subject.

99. There's a white chick on The Bad Girls Club named Jennavecia and ya'll are complaining about these kids names. One is pronouned Dayshawna and the other Dayjanae. All of the kids names have 3 syllables but that chicks name has 5. Why not call out her parents for naming their kid such a "WEIRD" name as you all put it? Until you people realize that all races are the same in alot of ways and we are all subject to do the same things, this country will never overcome prejudice and racism. Grow up and pay attention to the fact that a child's life was almost lost. It can happen to all of us, black, white, asian and hispanic. Climb over the color barriers please!

101. The 3 year old is on life support per the news last night, she can hear her families voices but she drifts back into a deep sleep The 1 year old is doing better, still hospitalized but to be released in a few days. The other children have been removed from the home & placed with relatives. Charges have not been filed because they're still investigating. Not sure if the mother is married or not. But like all of have stated, you should never leave your children unattended in a bathtub, swimming pool, beach, etc. Water is very dangerous, you can be a great swimmer but things can happen. I also heard last night, this is not the first time the mother has left the children unattended, per a family member, she has left her 7 yrd old take care of the younger ones while the mother went out, there times when the 7 yr old did not go to school because she had to take care of her younger siblings. That is just pathetic & disgusting. No child should be responsible in taking care of their siblings, that is the parents job. My heart goes out to the young 7 yr old, she should be enjoying her childhood, being a kid, doing kid stuff, not being a "parent" to her siblings. I hope the 7 yr old & her siblings will be alright & I pray the little 3 yr old pulls through.

104. NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED???!!!??? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! 25 WITH 5 KIDS AND APPARENTLY A 7 YEAR OLD TAKING CARE OF THE YOUNGER ONES, PROBABLY FULL TIME. I BET SHE GETS FREE CHILD CARE, AND TONS OF FOOD STAMPS, AND THEY ALL HAVE DIFFERENT DADDY'S, ETC, ETC. GOOD GRIEF!
