Killers to Manager: No $3 Mil For You!

The Killers were back in front of the California State Labor Commissioner today in a bid to avoid paying a former manager $3 million. So much for Mr. Brightside!

Lead singer Brandon Flowers faced his second day of cross-examination by lawyers for Braden Merrick, who sued the Vegas rockers for unpaid commissions in 2006.

Brandon and the boys are seeking to void their management contract -- alleging Merrick booked employment without a license. Details, details!

16. And just out of curiosity Dizzle, who did you look most forward to playing on SNL last year?

17. Click on the link where it says "void their management contract" and you can see The Killers' side to the story. It's pretty obvious why their former manager's lawyer is using TMZ, since he sure as hell doesn't seem to have a case.

18. From the band's petition, it sounds like the manager a) wasn't licensed in California, which has pretty strict legal requirements and b) he took money from their label while he was supposedly representing them. That's two major issues. Also, from reading the petition, the manager tried to charge them for booking interviews and live radio appearances, from which the band would receive no income. Concert bookings are one thing; publicity is another.

Hope the Killers win this.

23. Hey TMZ, not enough going on in the celebrity world this week that you have to pick on the only good rock band out there these days?! If you halfway knew anything you'd know that they are holding his money for good reason. Did you even read the petition that you posted on your site? Come on, I'm no lawyer but it seems loud & clear to me that The Killers are right. This guy was being such a sleezy manager. He doesn't deserve to be paid for services that he didn't do. And to that lawyer at the end that says Braden Merrick is the one that made The Killers famous...uh, I don't think so buddy, I believe that Brandon Flowers writes those beautiful songs & that is what has made them famous!

25. Merrick's attorney, Howard King, is representing Margaret Cho in a similar suit against me, her former manager and business partner. In our case, however, he is HOPING for that "Hail Mary" pass from the Labor Commissioner that will allow her to pocket the commissions she owes me.

Our suit goes in front of the Labor Commissioner on Feb. 20 at 8:30 am. All my pleadings are on a blog I created here: margaretchoandme.blogspot.com.

26. I absolutely love The Killers and no matter how boring one finds this piece, I loved it because they are quite a private group and we never get to see too much of them! Hopefully they can work this out!
