It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Zooming Over Traffic!

Finally, the promise of the flying car has been answered. Kinda ... when it comes to floating cars, seeing is believing.

Moller International has "begun production" on its M200G Volantor two-seater flying vehicle. The company says that the vehicle will hover up to 10 feet over most surfaces at 50 mph. Whoosh!

With traffic getting worse by the day, the starting price of $90,000 seems a small price to pay to dodge the dreaded morning rush.

18. Moller made his start up capital for these with Super Trap exhaust systems for dirt bikes- they work great! Don't worry about idiots screaming around in these. If they ever come out, they will be so automated that there will be virtually no user input from operators. Commercial jets can pretty much totally fly themselves now- including take offs and landings. I have about 30 hours flying helicopters and I can tell you that the FAA is so rightfully anal about flight rules that you'll NEVER see your drunken, blind grandmother flying one under her control. When vehicles become more automated, these things may come into their own. I imagine that to free fly one would require some serious licensing that would prohibit normal idiots legally controlling them! Any pilots out there already understand this. I once asked for medication for insomnia in flight school and melatonin and aspirin were the ONLY meds legally allowed. Still think there will be a problem with drunk/stupid/drugged out people flying these- I seriously doubt it. Now how much is it to buy one again?

19. Oh, the crane thing. They usually have them loosely hooked to one with a slack line to avoid mayhem, but the safety line is just that. Yes they do fly, but one slight mistake and you're flaming, ground up hamburger buried in a closed casket. Totally unstable!

21. Moller is so full of it. He's been issuing press releases on this for over twenty years.

22. I thin that might be the wrong ship. Moller had a 4 ducted fan pod type craft that looked more like a Porsche on steroids. Im certain he was closer to putting that one the market. Ive seen tethered flights of the one above. Its a bit too much of a wobbly goblin.

23. Do they really think the local authorities are gonna let anyone fly one of those things anywhere near a public road? Not a chance! They would let you drive it but doubtfull on the flying part

24. Personally, I would not have mind having people fly around in these as long as they requirements to get certified was as hard as it was for pilots to get certified. In effect, that might not be a bad thing as that would mean less people on the road.
