Celebrity Justice
45 Days, Her Ass?!

Just because Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail, it doesn't mean she'll do the time. Because of overcrowding and other issues, L.A. inmates often get sprung early.
Paris and Michelle
Former "Lost" star Michelle Rodriguez was sentenced to 60 days in the very same facility in which Paris is scheduled to do time for the very same offense -- probation violation over a DUI conviction. Rodriguez served a grand total of 2 hours before jail officials told her to get lost.

Stay tuned.

91. Well, well, well....it's about time that this bitch brat go to jail. She mocked the law, she mocked the safety of others who she could have injured while driving without headlights.!

And her mother's attitude inside the court only proves why Paris is such a spoiled brat!
As the saying goes...the apple won't fall far from the tree! It should have been better if both mother daughter share the jail cell!

Perhaps, next time, she should be sentenced to 12 months or more! Now, she party with her friends inside her cell!

92. As a matter of fact, she should have been sentenced to 145 days!

93. As a RN in the ER for the past 18 years, I can say without a doubt that Paris Hilton needs to do jail time, I have seen 1st hand how drunk drivers kill innocent people and they come out with out a scratch!!!!!no one should be above the law, hilton or any other celebrity. The celebs need to know they can and will be prosecuted like any other jane/joe on the street. the money they have should not make them above the law. And her mother should be held accountable for "bad parenting" my GOD she laughed at the prosecutors remarks and acted like an ass when the verdict was read. no wonder the hilton girls think they should not have to answer to anyone. Their mother is a poor example of how to behave in public and I can only hope that paris and the other daughter staighten up. truth be told I seriously doubt it..

94. The Hiltons have skated on their money for too many years, they need to see what reality realy is.. I hope she does time in the General Polulation, and not in a private cell like OJ, she needs to see what is the real world in jail/prison, and I pray her money does not buy her favoritism!!!!!!

96. @#92

I am not a supporter of 'drunk driving,' I doubt anyone is, but the fact that Paris Hilton was made a target because of her celebrity status is what upsets me. There are countless sources which state that there were countless of other options on the table...many of which did not include sending Paris to jail.

This is what Paris, her attorney, and her parents expected to happen. Judge Sauer did this out of the public spectacle the trial came out to be. Of course the 'haters' came out of the woodwork and posted some god-awful comments towards Paris; some wishing her to 'die in jail' or to 'rot in prison.' Paris' 45-day sentence was a message from Judge Sauer. A message that celebrities won't get special treatment...and in fact, they will get even HARSHER treatment than normal. It was a targeted sentence, no doubt. Paris deserves 7-10 days, no more, no less.

As a person who knows a few California public defenders and attorneys, I for one know the hardhips the court circuit can be. But, we don't acknowledge the fact that many other 'regular joes and janes' get off scott-free on their first, second, and sometimes (but rarely) their third offenses. Alas, we focus on those of our family and friends who did get sent to jail over their raucous behavior.

In the end, the people who benefit from this will be Judge Sauer and Paris Hilton. Sauer because his little ruling will help him gain notoriety in the public eye (election, anyone?), and Hilton because not only will she come out of this stronger, but her fame has been renewed for another year or so. Plus, I highly doubt the 45 day sentence will be upheld due to overcrowding, so Sauer wins and Paris wins.

97. I doubt that Paris Hilton will spend 45 days in jail. Her attorneys will get her out of the jailhouse on a technacality.

98. The L.A. Times reporting on Paris' sentencing said the Sheriff said overcrowding is no longer a problem and she's likely to do the whole 45 days. It's here in the middle of the page: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/celebrity/la-me-hilton5may05,1,2445936.story?ctrack=1&cset=true

99. "Until late last year, overcrowded jail facilities in the county had led Sheriff Lee Baca to release most inmates early, including immediately processing out anyone sentenced to less than 90 days in jail. That is no longer true, and Baca's spokesman, Steve Whitmore, said Friday that his understanding of the judge's order meant Hilton was likely to serve the full 45 days"

Sounds like the Sheriff's Department put out a statement. Big difference between reporting that and displaying obvious political bias, as with their treatment of Fred Thompson.

101. Nobody gets 45 days for this, the only reason that she's getting this much time is because of her name.I was caught three times driving on a suspended license. And i got 3 days community service in Beverly Hills.

102. How will TMZ survive 45 days with PH out of circulation?

103. Why is Paris a celebrity in the first place? It seems to me she is famous whoring, drinking and partying, I mean with role models like this for Americas youth is it no wonder our society has become so debased. Paris needs to spend all 45 days in jail, if she did not have money she would already be there. Put her in jail and be done with it, equal justice for all!

104. If she is in regular LA County Jail, say the Twin Towers Correctional facility, she'd typically end up doing a "County 45" which is 10% of the time she is supposed to serve - probably 5 days. Overcrowding is no joke there (not saying or not whether I've ever been inside there)

Of course, Paris Hilton (or any person who can afford a typical long term duration hotel stay of $80-120 a night) can afford to do their time in a Pay Jail Facility in LA.
There, she'll be isolated from other inmates, can use a laptop, will have to do a little work in the facility, etc. I'd Expect Hilton to do about 20-30 days in one of these places and maybe a little CalTrans highway cleanup :)
