Sanjaya: Bottoming Out?

Sanjaya MalakarA source tells TMZ that 17-year-old "American Idol" contestant Sanjaya Malakar's cheery smile is simply a front ... and privately, the winsome teen is actually bumming.

A source close to Sanjaya's family revealed exclusively to TMZ that the darling hula-dancer has been devastated by recent bad press he's received over his not-so-precious singing. "He's so young and so sensitive, it's hard for him to go out on that stage and not have that devastation affect his performance," said the source.

Apparently, it's not just hard on Sanjy, but on his family as well; they are trying their best to just be a strong support system for the adorable teenager as he hulas his way through this sometimes surreal experience as one of the remaining 11 American Idols. It's unlikely that Sanjaya will have to endure it much longer. He was in the bottom two last week.

33. This is a singing contest, not a smear campaigne that the judges have turned this into with
Sanjaya...anybody would feel degraded and hurt after what they have all said to him and the way they have treated him.
Apparently there are a number of people who support Sanjaya and vote for him. Wonder who the next person will be that they choose to humiliate after Sanjaya is gone. It's one thing
to comment on their singing ability, but to sling mud about them personnally is horrible.
I hope Sanjaya overfcomes this experience. I am sure that when he was selected by the
same judges that bash him every week, he would have elected not to audition in the first
place. Good luck Sanjaya in what ever you do. You have my respect and admiration.

37. Sanjaya "bottoming out" as in sexually? He's a good singer, but not good enough for the show. He made it this far but he's not cut out for the competition. All this Sanjaya stuff is good for American Idol though. They may keep him on and continue to kick off better people to get us all mad and stuff!

40. Let’s cut to the chase here, Sanjaya Malakar sucks as a singer - period. Why he was allowed to continue on by the big 3 is baffling - Clearly they thought he was his sister - they both have the same hair, but his is more feminine. He gets the kiddie vote - plus the Howard Stern listener vote (yes, Howard is up to his tricks). Hopefully, he will get the boot this week - --otherwise, look for the ratings to start sliding down and he will absolutely fail if he wins the entire thing.

He sang better than rodgers and Aj on the day. And even then there are a lot of the others who are quite as bad . Then why is his survival such a shocker that the whole country has lost its mind on this topic and cant move ahead.

44. He is the WORST singer to ever make it in the top 12 since Idol got huge. He is completely talentless and that fact that he is still on the show is an insult to the thousands of people who are better singers then him. HE DOESN'T EVEN SING! He just whispers his songs and the only thing people can say is he has all that hair. WOW! B.T.W. I hate his smelly ugly girl hair too. I'm glad he feels bad, he should feel worse. He should do the decent thing and drop out. I hope he cries every night because everybody hates him and he sucks.
