Wayans Drops N-Bomb, Faces Fallout

Damon WayansDamon Wayans became the first famous offender of the Laugh Factory's ban on the use of the n-word, and was fined and banned from the club for three months as a result, Wayans' publicist tells TMZ.

After the Michael Richards incident on November 17, the club decided to ban use of the word and fine comedians $20 for every offense. Wayans took the stage Sunday during a showcase of African-American comedians called "Chocolate Sundaes." Wayans opened his routine with the line, "Give yourselves a big round of applause for coming down and supporting 'N***** Night.'" According to the L.A. Times, Wayans used the word 15 more times during his 20-minute appearance.

That's a $320 contribution to the Laugh Factory's swear jar. Wayans' rep had no further comment other than to confirm the fine and the temporary ban.

Andy Dick drew fire earlier this week for using the n-word during an appearance at the Improv.

76. This just bothers me. I have noticed that when African-Americans use the N-word. (Which I have never cared for that word no matter who uses it.) It seems like the audience will laugh and all is just fine. However, when a Caucasian uses the N-word. Everyone cringes and calls him a racist for using it. Why? I am not saying what Michael Richards did was acceptable, but this goes way beyond him. It has always been this way. He just made the issue more public because of who he was. Am I wrong? Does anyone else feel this way? I just don't think it should be a double standard. If one race can say it without being looked down on than all the other races should be able to use the same language without being accused of racism.

77. 66 me

Thanks for sharing a real life experience with someone who clearly is distrubed and who is now getting the national exposure he is deserving of now. Hannity and Colmes is about to do a story on this latest incident so hope more of America gets "the other side" of Homey the Clown.

78. People have freedom of speech in their personal lives. However, no one is owed support for what they say in the public sphere. If the n-word is banned for some it should be banned for all. On the other hand politically correct speech has been a big issue for years, at colleges. Too often people try to be offended, so they can feel superior and cause trouble.

83. ELLIS you're a dumbass. You go to every story that has something to do with a black person and make the same racist remarks. At least say something original. That thing about black people not being far from walking on all fours? You said it on another blog already. We got your point!!!

By the way, I just read the Serena Williams- pitt bull story and there you were again. Chatting about some bulls**t that you don't even believe. If you hate black people so much then why are you giving them so much attention. You're trying to incite a reaction just for kicks. You blog on their stories and you admit that you watch Judge Mathis. For someone who hates blacks you sure know how to give them the time of day.

84. I'm not sure why the word hasn't fallen to disuse. We can all agree that the terms of it's installment into the English language were unsavory. For some white people it's a last resort means to oppress, for some black people it's a handshake. For most of us, it should be neutral (hopefully) since nobody should make sweeping racial generalizations. This is one white person that wishes his ancestors would've done the damn work themselves, then maybe we wouldn't have this problem. People ask what's wrong with America? How can we be so racist? Ignorant? Well, it's got something to do with the roots, even though we try so hard to phase it out, it'll always be there. Inherited like genetics from an unethical era.

85. What's the fine for saying "Chink"? $18.50? How about Coon, Wop, Kaffer??? There should be a fine for the Dufuses who allowed Michael Richards back to the Laugh Factory the next day, then after the fallout, come up with this brilliant idea. For consistency, people who say the "n" word in their thoughts should confess and be made to pay at least 50 cents per "n" thought.

86. Hmmm, someone is controlling our speech? That is odd I didn't realize that the Liberal, Politicall correctness police were interested in controlling our speech...It certainly isn't the Conservatives.
The fact that it was made an issue ( because Michael Richards is WHITE) Now makes it an issue. Wayans made a career out of being an "equal opportunity" offender of people on his show "In Living Color". Don't look now, but everyone is talking about it and HIM. The man is a GENIUS!

87. My thoughts are this on the matter. If socially acceptable by one group then it should be for all, since there are the screams of equality always in the air. It is a word of ignorance no matter who says it! So why not be above it in the first place. All this does is stir the proverbial racial tensions sh*t pot anyway. No one wins in this matter anyway since the world is melding more together. When are we going to grow up on the trivial sh*t as being Human beings instead of color. Only race out their is Human.

88. to all white people the n-word is for black people and black people only u have been calling black people n*ggers since u first saw black people and now in the age of hip-hop u want to show your racism outright because black people use the n-word to other black people as a show of friendship all white people want to exploit the word for raceist means it is wrong for white people because they are still racesit to black people we as a race cannot get to the future if we hang on to the past i am a black american and i love all people but if a white boy call me a n*gger or n*gga his ass is mine peaceout teddy aka (t-rex)

89. OH GET OVER YOUR NARROW MINDED SELF. IT'S A DOUBLE STANDARD AND OFFENSIVE BEHAVIOR NO MATTER WHAT RACE OR NATIONAL ORIGIN YOU ARE. IT IS NOT O.K. FOR YOU TO SAY IT EVEN IF IT WAS A CHOCOLATE SUNDAE NIGHT BUDDY. HOW BOUT IT TO BE O.K. FOR A OR ANY WHITE MAN TO HAVE A VANILLA MILK SHAKE NIGHT AND SAY THE N WORD.
NOT O.K. EHHHH?

90. People give too much power to words and try to change or ban them. Wouldn't a better solution be to try and change our actions and our deeds? Its not a word that hurts or holds back people, its the thought process that goes into using the word that is really damaging.
