Top Model Bigger Than Ever?

Tyra Banks
"America's Next Top Model" is huge -- and so are the contestants! The gals of next season's ANTM are not your usual model-size negative 1. Although the girls would definitely not be labeled as plus-sized, insiders say they're far from the stick figures we're used to seeing on the runway. Our source joked that the hair and makeup peeps have their work cut out for them.

It is unclear whether or not it's a strategic move, or if the producers are slightly off in their choices, but we applaud taking the more natural-looking woman and trying to doll her up. On a 'lighter' note, the girls are said to be some of the most humble and grateful girls the show has ever seen. Say it isn't so! Top Model is nothing without the bitchfights!

31. Who wants to see a FAT ASS on TV we see them everyday. The only thing the show will do is make FAT WOMEN look like CIRCUS CLOWNS. Especially compared to the girls in other seasons. Keep the models tall-slim-attractive, like they should be. Models aren't suppose to look like the everyday woman. I know am 6'0 and slim everywhere I go eyes trail me. If I was average height and weight How would I STAND OUT? Your suppose to look unlike an everyday women.

32. Hooters, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you, dear, but everyones eyes are trailing you because you have toilet paper stuck to your shoe. :) But don't sweat it, it happens to everyone!

34. Just because the aveage size is america is 14 doesn't mean its a healthy size, it just means that the majority of women fall into that size category, and considering obesity runs rampant in america, being a size 14 is nothing to be proud of or defend..unless you're 7 ft. tall.

35. #27: Wow Cynthia, I feel very sorry for your patients. Since when and in what ways is being a
5'3" frame and a size 14 more healthier then being 5'3" and size 0. You are clearly
not the brightest "pre-med", which I highly doubt you even are because a true pre-med
would not spread such moronic views. 14 is considered to be the brink of obesity, surely
you woud know that.

36. To post #26, if you are really 5'10" and 108lbs, your bmi would be 15.5 which would make you significantly underweight, and thinner than most models( the average size is 5'9" and 117lbs, and skinnier than Kate Moss. If that were the case then most likely you are not "TOTALLY HEALTHY". While I agree that skinny people aren't disgusting(I'm a size zero), I think that it is innapropiate for you to expect all women to be a size four or smaller.

37. This discussion is ridiculous. Do you realize that the purpose behind really slim models is to have the clothing hang from their shoulders as if they were walking clothes-hangers. As these models became celebrities, individuals in our celeb-obsessed culture decided that models represented the ideal body type. Instead of being influenced by reality, fashion & popular culture now dictate what our bodies should look like (which has contributed to the current plastic surgery trend). Being too skinny is no healthier than being too fat. Strive for optimal health and your body will show you what size it is supposed to be for YOU!

38. How about people should live how they want, be as fat or skinny as they want, and to hell with what everyone else thinks? Just an idea.

39. TO THOSE WHO THINK 14 IS FAT:

Marilyn Monroe was a size 14 at the peak of her career. She even drifted up into the size-16 category at times.

If you think she was unattractive, then you'll have to take that up with about 160 million people who beg to differ.

Also, I find it interesting that one of you idiots mentioned that a smaller frame was better. I know a girl who is 5'10" and VERY THIN but wears a size 12, because she has a bigger frame. So get over yourselves.

40. Jennifer you could benefit from some intelligenc

I AM a Size 0/1.... but I am 5'1" and 106 pounds and a very healthy well fed athletic person. Stop hating on anyone who isn't overweight or big boned!!

Cynthia who said "However, at say 5'3'' which is the average height of the American woman, a size 14 would be far healthier than a size 0." I think you just may flunk out of med school.

41. I'm with glee -- I'm 5'5/100 lbs and have been this weight for more than 8 years -- I have a smaller frame, true, but my body size is what it is -- I'm not unhealthy or anorexic, and its insulting to insinuate that any person who isn't a size 14 is unhealthy. Quite frankly, American's ARE too fat. The average woman has gained 20 lbs over the last 40 years -- while remaining the same average height. That is NOT right. I'm not saying everyone who wears a 14 is fat -- that's not true -- but let's not pretend that it is an ideal weight either (and let us be fair, a size 14 today is the equivalent of what a size 20 was back when Marilyn Monroe was around -- US clothing companies increase clothing sizes every few years, while keeping the number the same, so that people can think that they are smaller than they are -- I have size 0s from six years ago that are much smaller than a 0 available today from the exact same store).

If ANTM wants to have bigger girls on the show -- that's fine -- but as another poster said, "models" are not supposed to represent the average person. They are walking clothes hangers -- period. Very few people are going to be 5'10/115 lbs -- that's fine -- but really, is it "smart" for a show that operates under the pretense of "discovering" new modeling talent to have girls competing who will never, ever get hired? Okay, none of the current girls would ever get real work anyway (its all 15 and 16 year old European girls -- and more power to them) -- but whatever.

42. Well, to be honest I have no idea how much a size 14 or a size 0 would weigh? So, I guess what I should say is I'd be more alarmed for a patient who's underweight than I would one who is overweight. Recent studies show that women who are slightly overweight, that being having a BMI only slighter higher than 25 live longer than women who are underweight, even if they're only 5 -10 lbs. underweight. However, BMI is a flawed way to measure one's health. A much better gage would be your hip to waist ratio. A woman who's overweight but, not obese, who exercises and eats right and who has a waist smaller than her hips is far healthier than a woman who starves herself to fit into a size 0. I'm sure many models are naturally thin and are more than likely perfectly healthy. However, considering the alarming rate of eating disorders in this country they do not represent a positive body image anymore than a plus size model does. I'm basing alot of my opinion on the accounts of models like Crystal Wren; she's now a size 14 and the current face of Dolce & Gabanna's new campaign, I've seen and read her accounts of going from a size 0 to 14. Or Kate Dillon; another current plus size model at 14 who used to be a size 0. Anyone can look at pictures of these women before and after and clearly see that they're healthier now.

43. it all depends on where your body stores fat. pear shapes are much better off than apple shapes. apple shapes run a higher risk of heart disease. anyone with extra fat around the middle runs a higher risk of heart disease. get your facts straight.

one of the healthiest and most athletic women I know is just over 5'3" and is a size 5/6.

To reality check - get a reality check - THE SIZES OF SIZES HAVE INCREASED in the past 40 freaking years. I know this because when I try on my grandmothers clothes they were size 7 and they fit me now (as a current size 0/1).

Only a large boned and/or a tall woman should be anywhere near a current size 14, it just shows the amount of obesity in this country. Justifiying it does NOT send healthy messages to girls!!! Girls should learn to be active and eat healthy, NOT to starve OR overindulge.

44. GLEE --

Those are her measurements put into current sizes. Sheesh. Do some research.

45. I'm sorry, don't you all have more important things to worry about than your jean size? Eat healthy, get excersize, and fill your brains with thoughts that are more meaningful. This weight obsession is absurd.
